How much will my visit cost?

Fees vary, though are significantly lower than a visit to the emergency room and generally the same or slightly higher than a visit to your primary care doctor.

If you have insurance, the total charges will be determined based on your insurance provider's policy regarding urgent care and the level of care you receive during your visit with us. If you have further questions, please contact your insurance company.

For information on the estimated cost of a self-pay visit, please call your local Yale New Haven Health Urgent Care center.

If you have a question regarding billing, please contact our billing department.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, we accept most major insurances. Your co-pay is collected and required at the time of service. A comprehensive list of accepted insurances can be found on our website here.

What if I don't have insurance?

Insurance isn’t required to visit Yale New Haven Health Urgent Care, and we have reasonable self-pay fees for those without insurance. In fact, you’ll find our fees are competitive with other local healthcare providers. Feel free to call us for estimated cost information. Payment is required at the time of service. Please note: Yale New Haven Health Urgent Care does not accept personal checks at any locations, and cash is not accepted for payment in our Connecticut or New York centers.

Please contact us if you have a question regarding billing.

What if I have a question about my bill?

Please contact our Billing Department with questions.

Is an urgent care visit more affordable than an emergency room visit?

Generally speaking, our fees are far more affordable than a visit to the emergency room, though this depends on your co-pay and the level of care you receive during your visit.

What if I have a broken bone?

We offer X-ray capabilities, so we’re able to diagnose fractures and help navigate a treatment plan. Our X-rays are read by a Board Certified Radiologist. We can also provide you with a copy of your X-rays on a CD for you to bring to your orthopedic physician for a follow-up appointment. Please be sure to call ahead for same-day X-ray availability.

How long is your wait time?

Wait times vary, though the average wait time is significantly less than the average wait time at an emergency room. Patients are typically in and out in less than an hour. You can check-in online to hold your spot in line at your nearest Yale New Haven Health Urgent Care.

To shorten your time in the center, start your visit with a telehealth evaluation. Telehealth visits are available 24/7. If in an in-person evaluation or testing is needed, your visit in the center will be prioritized as you have already started your visit online.

When waiting at any of our centers, your wait time will factor in those ahead of you in the wait queue who may be waiting in the waiting room or at home, as well as patients currently in the exam rooms, and patients currently receiving X-ray or lab services.

Who will I be seen by?

At Yale New Haven Health Urgent Care, you will be seen by one of our experienced providers who are trained in either emergency, family, or internal medicine. That provider may be a physician, a PA, or an APRN.

Physicians, PAs, and APRNs carry many of the same responsibilities. Like a physician, APRNs and PAs can examine, diagnose, and treat patients; they can interpret lab tests, perform procedures, and prescribe medication. PAs are nationally certified by the National Commission on Certification of PAs in conjunction with the National Board of Medical Examiners, and they must log 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years and sit for a recertification exam every ten years. They are also required to obtain state licensure in each state they practice.

Our experienced providers are trained in emergency, family, and internal medicine. In fact, you’ll find many are the same experts who have treated patients in local area hospitals.

Do you treat all ages?

Yes; at Yale New Haven Health Urgent Care, we provide care for patients of all ages.

Can I make an appointment?

We provide convenient care during extended hours and offer patients the flexibility of walking in to receive care at a time that is most convenient for them. Patients also have the option to check-in online to hold a spot in the wait queue. This is not an appointment, though allows patients to “hold their spot” in line and receive a text message when it is their turn to come in and complete the check-in process in person.

Can I visit Yale New Haven Health Urgent Care for primary care?

While we provide convenient and high-quality urgent medical care when a patient’s PCP is unavailable, we are not a replacement for your primary care provider. We encourage patients to establish a relationship with a primary care provider, and we are happy to provide patients with the name of PCPs in their area.

Are all urgent care centers the same?

Not at all! All Yale New Haven Health Urgent Care centers are certified by the Urgent Care Association, a very strict certification process that upholds the highest standards for Urgent Care. All providers are board-certified. Not all urgent care centers take the time to become licensed, so it is important you are aware of what level of care you are receiving. With Yale New Haven Health Urgent Care, you'll never have to worry - we take pride in our high standard of care.
