When you visit Yale New Haven Health Urgent Care for sports injury treatment, we’ll begin by reviewing your medical history and asking about your injury (for example, when and how it occurred, what symptoms you’re experiencing, and whether at-home remedies have provided any relief). Next, we’ll perform a thorough examination.
In many cases, we can diagnose sports injuries without the need for any further diagnostic testing. However, in some instances, we may recommend that you undergo X-rays to confirm or rule out a suspected injury. If you require imaging, you’ll be glad to know that we can perform X-rays on site (please call ahead for same-day X-ray availability).
Once we’ve diagnosed your sports injury, we’ll recommend the treatment approach that’s most appropriate for your specific circumstances. We’ll administer any necessary treatments on site and provide you with detailed instructions on how to care for your injury at home. In the event that we determine that your sports injury is too complex to be treated at an urgent care center, we can refer you to a specialist for further care.
If you think you might have sustained a sports injury, you shouldn’t delay seeking treatment. Many of these injuries can worsen if left untreated—for example, if a fracture heals improperly, it can lead to a deformity, an infection, or other complications—so it’s important that you consult with a professional as soon as possible.

Our experienced providers are trained in emergency, family, and internal medicine. In fact, you’ll find many are the same experts who have treated patients in local area hospitals.
Fees vary, though are significantly lower than a visit to the emergency room and generally the same or slightly higher than a visit to your primary care doctor.
If you have insurance, the total charges will be determined based on your insurance provider’s policy regarding urgent care and the level of care you receive during your visit with us. If you have further questions, please contact your insurance company.
