More than 7,000 Yale New Haven Health System nurses care for patients in our five hospitals, Northeast Medical Group practices and hundreds of outpatient locations, from New York to Rhode Island. Our nurses are leaders and innovators who are advancing nursing practice, improving patient outcomes and conducting research that is changing health care in our region, the nation and beyond.
YNHHS nurses provide care in inpatient and outpatient settings and dozens of specialty areas. No matter which setting and specialty you choose, you’ll work in a collaborative and challenging environment with other professionals committed to making a difference in our patients’ lives.
YNHHS’ Nurse Residency Program delivers an evidence-based curriculum focused on building nurses’ clinical and leadership skills. The program also provides support to help graduate nurses transition from nursing student to acute-care, professional nurse. Our Nurse Residency Program has earned Accreditation with Distinction – the highest level – from the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP), which sets the global standard for nurse residency programs.
YNHHS promotes practice excellence, professional development and lifelong learning through a variety of orientation programs, core curriculum classes for different specialties, a clinical advancement program with financial benefits and additional education and training options.
Each year, student nurse interns from academic institutions throughout the U.S. spend several weeks in Yale New Haven Health System hospitals. Student interns work in various service lines, learning clinical skills by providing patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Yale New Haven Health System helps current or aspiring leaders take the next steps in their careers, offering leadership education and support programs that include leadership mentoring.
Care Associates are valued members of the healthcare team, which is why Yale New Haven Health offers ongoing education and training programs and opportunities for advancement. The health system offers a 12-month, paid Patient Care Associate / Patient Care Technician Registered Apprenticeship Program for those with a CNA (certified nursing assistant) certificate.
As respected patient care experts, YNHHS nurses are integral members of multidisciplinary teams across service lines. Nurses have the opportunities, support and autonomy they need to improve practice, through Nursing Professional Governance, a nurse-developed Nursing Professional Practice Model, and Nursing Research and Evidence Based Practice Committee that helps nurses engage in projects that impact nursing practice throughout the health system and beyond.
