Our Heart and Vascular Center (HVC) is a global leader focused on prevention and treatment of cardiovascular conditions from infants to adults. With our Care Signature, every patient receives the highest standard of care at any of our many Yale New Haven Health locations.
The Heart and Vascular Center provides the full range of medical services – from diagnosis to advanced treatments and care management. Our areas of specialization include cardiac rehabilitation, cardiac surgery, heart failure, heart rhythm disorders (electrophysiology), heart transplant, interventional cardiology, pediatric cardiology, structural heart and valve disease, and vascular medicine and surgery. HVC also offers clinical research through Yale School of Medicine.
Our cardiac surgery team performs procedures at Bridgeport and Yale New Haven hospitals. We have Heart and Vascular Center services in Connecticut, Westerly, Rhode Island, and Westchester County, New York. That makes it easy for you to find a doctor or service at the right time, in the right location.
Among our achievements, Yale New Haven Health Heart and Vascular Center is the first and only healthcare system in Connecticut to be certified by the American College of Cardiology for transcatheter valve replacement procedures, offered at Bridgeport and Yale New Haven hospitals. In addition, Yale New Haven Hospital is recognized as a Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center of Excellence by the Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Association and was the first hospital in Connecticut to achieve this status.

Advanced Heart and Vascular Center services include cardiac ablation, cardiac catheterization, emergency angioplasty, pacemaker and defibrillator (ICD) implantation, as well as vascular procedures including lower extremity angioplasty and stenting, carotid artery angiogram and stenting and vein ablations. Many services are available at our outpatient locations.

L+M is the only hospital in eastern Connecticut and southern Rhode Island to perform elective angioplasty for patients with coronary artery disease and emergency angioplasty for victims of acute heart attack. HVC also offers stenting procedures, pacemaker and defibrillator placement. Many services are available at our outpatient locations.

Among HVC offerings are electrophysiology services including treatment of atrial fibrillation, heart blocks and ventricular arrhythmias. The hospital offers cardiac catheterization and pacemaker and defibrillator implantation. Tests include treadmill and nuclear stress testing, echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography and ultrasound.

The Center offers comprehensive medical, interventional and surgical treatments of pediatric cardiac conditions including heart murmurs, congenital heart disease, atrial and ventricular septal defects (hole in heart), congestive heart disease and heart failure. The Center is certified by United Network for Organ Sharing to offer pediatric heart transplant and a mechanical cardiac assist device program. Many services are available at our Pediatric Specialty Centers.
We are an acclaimed center for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and aortic and mitral valve repair and replacement.
