High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is a leading risk factor for developing cardiovascular disease, including congestive heart failure. Blood pressure is the force of the blood in your body pushing against the walls of your blood vessels with each heartbeat. Problems occur when the force of blood flowing is consistently too high.
The Hypertension Program at Yale New Haven Health is designed for patients with complex high blood pressure (hypertension) conditions. Complex conditions include high blood pressure brought on by a separate medical condition (secondary hypertension) and other blood pressure disorders, including resistant hypertension and labile hypertension.
The Hypertension Program evaluates and treats:
During a patient’s visit, a hypertension specialist will perform a complete evaluation, order medical tests as needed and create a treatment plan. Our goal is to help each patient achieve optimal health. Depending on findings, patients may have their care co-managed by their primary care physician and a Hypertension Program physician or APRN.
