  • Telemetry unit
  • Coronary/cardiac intensive care unit
  • Cardiothoracic intensive care unit
  • Medical intensive care unit
  • Surgical intensive care unit

The cardiac care team includes an intensivist (a physician specially trained to care for critically ill patients), cardiologists, surgeons, physician assistants and nurses, as well as physical, occupational and speech therapists, case managers, social workers, dietitians and pharmacists.

Inpatient Cardiac Care Services

Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Unit

Technology on the varied units ranges from sophisticated bedside monitors to leading-edge ventilators and defibrillators. Staff are specially trained to treat patients with complex and life-threatening cardiac conditions. Patients’ electrocardiograms (EKGs) and vital signs are monitored continuously.

Being in intensive care can be overwhelming and stressful. Our staff focuses on listening and responding to the concerns of patients and family members. Social workers and spiritual counselors are available as needed. The MSICU (OR medical and surgical intensive care units) maintain a patient- and family- centered visiting policy with flexible hours. They can arrange overnight accommodations for family members in the lounge or patient’s room.

Pain Management

Appropriate pain control helps patients recover faster and reduces the risk of developing certain complications. When pain is well controlled, patients are better able to participate in important activities such as walking, deep breathing exercises and physical therapy and rehabilitation. All cardiac patients are continually assessed to ensure they remain comfortable.

Spiritual Care

Hospital chaplains provide a spiritual presence in keeping with the beliefs or religious practices of patients and their families. Chaplains are available for counsel, prayer and support for those in need. The Spiritual Care Department will also assist in contacting clergy from the community.
