The Heart and Vascular Center’s Preventive Cardiovascular Health Program is aimed at preventing heart disease and stroke in people at risk of these conditions. It emphasizes individual risk evaluation and a partnership with patients.
This program is especially designed to help people with:
The program also helps women who have been diagnosed with heart disease or unexplained chest pain (angina).
During the first appointment, a cardiologist conducts a detailed personal and family history. Patients may be referred for blood work, imaging test(s), genetic screening, and remote blood pressure monitoring. Working with the patient, a lifestyle plan will be developed to reduce the patient’s cardiovascular risk and improve overall health. Our team also includes nutritionists, exercise physiologists and pharmacists.
The Preventive Cardiovascular Health Program team also works with local community organizations to identify and address barriers to cardiovascular health, such as environmental and social factors.
This program includes a sports cardiology component designed for adults and high school students involved with sports and physical fitness activities. It specializes in evaluation of potential cardiac symptoms, determination of sports eligibility, return-to-play determination, and managing athletes with cardiac conditions. Expanded cardiovascular screening and testing services are available to area colleges and athletic clubs.
Signs of heart attack include the most common symptoms, such as chest pain or pain radiating down an arm, often the left arm. However, heart attack symptoms can also feel like gas or heartburn. Symptoms in women are often even more vague.
