Yale New Haven Health Visitor Guidelines

Visitors and support persons are a vital part of the healing process. At Yale New Haven Health, we are committed to fostering a welcoming environment while ensuring the safety of our patients, staff, and community.

Each of our hospitals has specific guidelines to provide the best possible experience for patients and visitors. Please check the visitor information for your location:

General Visitation Information

For Inpatients

Patients staying in the hospital may have up to two visitors at a time. Designated support persons, such as caregivers or advocates, may also be present in addition to visitors.

Visitation hours and policies may vary by hospital or unit, so we recommend contacting the facility for details specific to your loved one’s care.

For Outpatients

For appointments or procedures in outpatient areas (e.g., clinics, imaging, or the emergency department), one visitor or support person is typically allowed.

Mask Policy

To protect the health of our patients, staff, and visitors, our mask policy is updated regularly based on current public health conditions. At this time:

  • Masks are not required in most outpatient and inpatient areas, except where specifically noted (e.g., for certain high-risk patient populations).
  • Visitors are encouraged to bring a mask if they feel more comfortable wearing one during their visit.
  • If masking is required in any location, signage will be posted, and staff will provide masks as needed.

Please check our masking guidelines for the most up-to-date information.

Visitor Wellness and Safety

To help us maintain a safe and healthy environment, we ask all visitors to monitor their health before coming to our facilities. Please do not visit if you are experiencing:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough, congestion, or runny nose
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • A skin rash that is new or accompanied by fever

Additionally, if you have tested positive for COVID-19 or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 within the past 10 days, we kindly ask that you postpone your visit.

Staying Informed

Visitor policies may change based on public health conditions or operational needs. For the latest updates, visit the website of the specific hospital you plan to visit.

Thank you for helping us create a safe, supportive environment for everyone at Yale New Haven Health and our facilities.
