Dr Dayya earned his undergraduate baccalaureate degree from Rutgers, The State University of N.J. in the field of Chemistry and conducted research in the area of Electrochemistry. He was acknowledged with an award for academic achievement in this discipline.
He went on to earn graduate degrees including Masters and PhD degrees in Biostatistics through the University of Connecticut.
He received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of N.J (UMDNJ). He completed post-graduate internship and residency training through University Hospital/Union Memorial Hospital - University of Medicine & Dentistry of NJ, and through the Saint Barnabas Hospital Health System - New York Institute of Technology where he was recognized and received a clinical excellence award in patient care as a resident physician.
Dr Dayya's interest in Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine was fostered through his background as a certified scuba diving instructor with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) and National Association of Diving instructors (NAUI). He is a Diving Medical Officer (DMO) and serves as a Diving Medicine consultant. He received certification as a Diving Medical Advisory Committee (DMAC) Level 1 (Diving Medical Examiner) & 2 (Diving Medical Officer) through the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS). He is a physician consultant for the Divers Alert Network (DAN).
His research areas of interest and publications are broad in scope and multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary spanning the fields of Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine, Wound Care, Occupational & Environmental Toxicology, Neurodevelopmental conditions, Pulmonary & Respiratory Medicine, Infectious Disease, Perinatal Medicine, and Obesity. This has included a directing and central role in multiple clinical trials. He has served as a research consultant and research skills instructor for hospital institutions and Industry. His commitment to knowledge discovery is demonstrated through ongoing roles in cutting edge research.
The physician-scientist and physician-teacher roles are very important to Dr Dayya where he has been involved in educational program development and in the teaching or colleagues and healthcare professionals at all levels of training from student through fellow. Dr Dayya has been recognized and awarded for achievements in education and received institution-level "Teaching Attending of the Year" awards. He was also recognized at the national level with an award for his dedication to teaching from The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM).
At the national level Dr Dayya is a member of the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society's Education Committee and Diving Committee where he is involved in policy setting standards.
His medical staff appointments include the Yale New Haven Health System - Greenwich Hospital, Nuvance Healthcare System - Norwalk Hospital, and Northwell Health - Phelps Hospital where he serves as an Associate Medical Director in the Division of Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine - Department of Surgery.
Dr Dayya values a comprehensive approach toward the care of his patients in the practice of Medicine, Public Health, Undersea & Hyperbaric Medicine, and Wound Care. He is privileged to have served diverse, underserved communities, and varied populations throughout his career including service with the Department of Health and Human Services - National Health Service Corps, and through Indian Health Service. Dr Dayya's professional goals include practicing medicine, conducting research, and teaching in accordance with the highest quality standards for the benefit of the patients and the communities served, and to empower patients in the restoration and maintenance of optimal health. To practice medicine in the tradition of the comprehensive biopsychosocial holistic model of healthcare.
