Yale New Haven Health System, with the Yale New Haven Stroke Center, created the state's first telemedicine stroke program in 2008. Yale New Haven TeleStroke Network uses high-speed network videoconferencing and image-sharing technology with partner hospitals to assess and consult rapidly with partners on treatment options for acute stroke victims. Members include Lawrence + Memorial and Sharon hospitals. As part of the TeleStroke Network, subscribing hospitals can provide expert acute stroke care for patients without transferring patients to Yale New Haven Hospital for diagnosis. The Center is a state-designated primary stroke center, and a nationally-designated primary stroke center through The Joint Commission.
