Community Outreach Activities Shine Bright for Those in Need

Community outreach has been very active at Northeast Medical Group throughout the summer.

Greenwich region Northeast Medical Group practices recently held a drive to collect non-perishable food items, as well as personal hygiene products, to benefit Homes for the Brave. A Bridgeport-based nonprofit organization, Homes for the Brave assists the veteran community, and their families, with community-based programs involving housing, case management, and vocational services. Their team is committed to helping veterans actively experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. “The Greenwich region is committed to giving back to our community, in various ways, through staff donations or by participating in events involving time and labor,” said Carmen Ortega, MPH, practice supervisor. “As a way of saying thank you, and supporting our veterans and their families, these donations will help individuals who are experiencing food insecurities, who were once homeless, or are at risk of being homeless, have the basic necessities. We appreciate their sacrifices and all they have done for our country. I sincerely thank everyone who helped support our veteran community with this drive.”

On July 24, NEMG Community Outreach Committee (COC) members hosted their monthly volunteer meal program at the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Valhalla, NY. The program provides a much-needed service to families who are supporting their sick children and don’t often have the time, financial means or energy to prepare a healthy, home-cooked meal. “We are currently in our fourth year of dinner meal preparation for the Ronald McDonald House in Valhalla, NY,” said Jessica Morandi, manager, practice operations. “Clinicians, team members and their families have all taken part in preparing dinner services and find it to be an extremely rewarding experience.”

New London region NEMG practices have been collecting classroom supplies for several schools in the surrounding area. Much-needed items include pens, pencils, notebooks, calculators, markers, craft supplies, staplers, rulers, tissue and hand sanitizer. All donations will be dropped off at schools during the week of August 19. Maria Garcia, practice administrative lead, who co-led the supplies drive along with Melisa Simpkins, MA II, said, “It’s not just about collecting school supplies. It’s about empowering our communities with the tools to build brighter futures.”
