Bridgeport, CT (December 13, 2024) – Yale New Haven Health (YNHHS) cut the ribbon on a state-of-the-art retail pharmacy in the lobby of Bridgeport Hospital today. The location, set to open early next year, will offer integrated, personalized pharmacy services for patients, employees and the community.
The pharmacy will be open seven days a week for patients being discharged from the hospital, as well as patients looking to refill prescriptions, residents who live in the area and need convenient access to a retail pharmacy and hospital employees.
“This pharmacy not only provides convenient access to medications, it also will bridge the gap between inpatient care and patients going home,” said Anne Diamond, DBA, JD, president of Bridgeport Hospital. “By having a pharmacy on-site, patients are able to access medications before leaving the hospital, ask questions and learn how to take their medications safely and effectively.”
By filling medications through Yale New Haven Health, the hospital’s healthcare providers can easily communicate with a patient’s provider through Epic/MyChart, which is the electronic medical record system. This leads to quicker responses for medication questions, refill requests, prior authorization approvals and questions about financial assistance.
In addition to improving patient experience, the pharmacy is also looking to improve access to pharmacy services for the entire community.
“As retail pharmacies in general are reducing hours or closing down, this pharmacy provides an access point and another choice for community and hospital patients,” said LeeAnn Miller, PharmD, MS, vice president and chief pharmacy officer at YNHHS.
The Bridgeport Hospital retail pharmacy is the sixth to be opened by YNHHS. The others are located at: Lawrence + Memorial Hospital; Saint Raphael’s campus of Yale New Haven Hospital; North Haven Medical Center; Outpatient Pharmacy Services in Hamden, which also provides specialty medications; and the Regional Operations Center in West Haven, which serves Home Infusion therapy patients’ needs.
Bridgeport Hospital, part of Yale New Haven Health, is a non-profit 501-bed acute care hospital with two campuses (plus 42 beds licensed to Yale New Haven Children's Hospital). Its Bridgeport and Milford Campuses serve patients from across the region. The hospital admits more than 23,000 patients and provides nearly 350,000 outpatient treatments annually. The Connecticut Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital is the only burn center in the state and one of only 64 verified burn centers in the United States. Bridgeport Hospital is committed to providing safe, compassionate and cost efficient care to its patients and the community. www.bridgeporthospital.org
