Friday, July 15, 2022

NEW HAVEN, CT (July 15, 2022) – Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital (YNHCH) has been honored as a recipient of the 2022-2025 Emergency Nurses Association’s (ENA) Lantern Award for demonstrating exceptional and innovative performance in leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research.

“This national distinction is a wonderful reflection of the outstanding work done by our team of doctors, nurses, social workers and other caregivers in our emergency department,” said Cynthia Sparer, executive vice president, Yale New Haven Health and executive director, YNHCH. “It is a remarkable achievement to be honored as one of two children’s hospitals in the northeast selected by ENA and one of only 22 Emergency Departments nationally.”

The ENA Lantern Award showcases an Emergency Department’s accomplishments in incorporating evidence-based practice and innovation into emergency care. EDs are encouraged to share stories that highlight a commitment to care of patients as well as well-being of nursing staff. The award serves as a visible symbol of the YNHCH commitment to quality, safety and a healthy work environment.

“This is a well-deserved acknowledgement of the emergency department team,” said Jason Malia, RN, director, Emergency and Procedural Services, YNHCH. “The past few years have challenged our teams to think differently and adapt quickly. This reflects our team’s success in leadership, practice, education, advocacy and research. We care for the sickest and most critically injured children, adolescents and young adults in our community. Our Lantern application demonstrated the strength of our nursing professionalism and inter-professional collaboration showing that we do our best together.”
