We offer expert patient evaluation and diagnosis, diagnostic testing, patient and family education, conservative treatment options and spine surgery, when necessary.

Spine care patients benefit from access to world-renowned specialists from neurosurgery, orthopedics, pain management and physical therapy. We also specialize in treating patients whose previous treatments or surgeries have not been wholly successful.

Multidisciplinary Team

Our spine team includes specially trained spine surgeons, neurologists, neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, pain specialists, physician assistants, advanced practice providers (APP), anesthesiologists, case managers, nurse coordinators, nursing assistants, physiatrists, physical therapists, psychologists, registered nurses, rehabilitation specialists and rheumatologists.

Treatment Options

We offer non-surgical, minimally invasive and surgical treatment options. Non-surgical options include medications (e.g., non-steroidal anti-inflammatory), physical therapy, behavioral health counseling and injections by physiatrists or anesthesiologists who specialize in spine care without surgery.

Non-surgical spine interventional treatment options, performed by anesthesiologists and physiatrists, include radiofrequency ablation procedures and the following injections:

  • Bursa
  • Epidural
  • Facet joint
  • Muscle trigger point
  • Peripheral joint
  • Physical therapy to help improve musculoskeletal impairments and pain to improve function
  • Sacroiliac join

Spine surgery offerings include both open and minimally invasive options with advanced techniques. Surgical treatment options include:

  • Dorsal column stimulators
  • Endoscopic spine surgery
  • Peripheral nerve stimulators to provide long-term pain control and address pain that previously could not be controlled by other treatments
  • Robotic-assisted spine surgery
  • Spinal decompression (taking pressure off nerves on the spinal cord) that can be caused from degeneration, disc herniation or tumors
  • Spinal fusion to stabilize the spine for localized conditions or larger deformities
  • Surgical intervention to remove a spinal tumor or stabilize the spine around a tumor
  • Treatment of vertebral fractures such as fusion, corpectomies or vertebroplasty

Yale New Haven Health offers the latest EOS low dose X-ray imaging technology that captures high-quality images with significantly reduced radiation exposure, ensuring the utmost comfort and wellbeing of our patients.

Located at 150 Sargent Drive in New Haven, the EOSedge® imaging system captures two X-ray scans of the body at the same time. The exam is done in a standing or seated position with the goal of giving physicians a depiction of your natural weight-bearing posture. This technology is ADA accessible and designed to accommodate most children and adults.
