Steven Hernandez; Bianca Kaluta, RN; and Emilia Boutsioulis, RN
PEACE recognition announced
These employees received PEACE (Patient Experience Award for Caring and Excellence) recognition for going above and beyond to meet patients’ and families’ needs.
Steven Hernandez, security specialist, Protective Services, was honored for going above and beyond for a family member. In early 2021, a premature infant was admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Her mother was terrified of elevators and found it very difficult to get to the 11th floor to visit her baby. She expressed her fears to Hernandez, who immediately volunteered to ride in the elevator with her. After that first visit, Hernandez arranged to either accompany the mother himself or have another officer available to help her up to the 11th floor every day for more than 80 days while the infant remained in the NICU.
Bianca Kaluta, RN, and
Emilia Boutsioulis, RN, Emergency Department, were honored for compassionate care of a patient who arrived in the ED after suffering a severe injury. While speaking with the patient, they discovered that it was his wedding anniversary and he was worried about missing it. Kaluta and Boutsioulis pooled their WOW bucks and purchased flowers in the hospital gift shop so the patient could surprise his wife for their special day.
All employees, physicians and volunteers are eligible for PEACE recognition. Send nominations to: [email protected].
