SLA 2 earns Throughput Champions Cup
Congratulations to SLA 2’s multidisciplinary team, led by dyad partners Darcy Hennessey, RN, patient services manager, and Rabia Rizwan, MD. The unit received Yale New Haven Hospital’s first Surgery Services Throughput Champions Cup award, recognizing units that demonstrate exemplary teamwork to optimize safe patient flow. Along with Medicine Services’ Capacity Champions Cup, the Surgical Services award is part of Yale New Haven Health’s efforts to ensure patients who are clinically ready to leave the acute-care setting experience a safe and timely discharge. Efficient patient throughput enhances the quality and safety of care. It also helps ease overcrowding due to holds in the emergency departments; decreases bottlenecks in the intensive care and post anesthesia care units; and prevents OR delays.
