Applications will be accepted March 1 - April 30 for the Frances Grindell Care Associate Scholarship for YNHH care associates pursuing nursing degrees. To be eligible, employees must be in good employment standing and working at least 24 hours per week for at least one year as a care associate. Scholarships of up to $750 for full-time employees and $500 for part-time employees will be awarded annually to qualified applicants who have been accepted by or are enrolled in a Connecticut registered nursing licensure program. Applications must be submitted online only. Applicants will be required to submit official transcripts, a letter of recommendation from a YNHH manager and complete an application questionnaire. Visit HRConnect for more information. The scholarship fund was established by the children of the late Frances Q. Grindell, RN, a YNHH nurse for 44 years, to honor her love for education and dedication to nursing.
Employees are invited to tune in to a Zoom webinar at 10 am Friday, March 11, to learn about colorectal cancer and the preventive screenings and services available, and covered at 100 percent, through YNHHS medical benefits and the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Gastroenterologist Hamita Sachar, MD, will discuss risk factors, symptoms and screening test options. Marge Stehman, senior manager, HRConnect, will discuss current benefits. Webinar details are on the intranet (in network only).
Throughout March, Yale New Haven Hospital will conduct a diaper drive benefitting the Diaper Bank of Connecticut. According to the Diaper Bank, nearly one in three families struggles to afford diapers. Employees are asked to donate diapers of all sizes, particularly sizes 3 and above. Diaper collection boxes will be available at the York Street Campus: Atrium (bassinet) and Clinic Building (security desk near Bank of America entrance); Saint Raphael Campus cafeteria entrance (bassinet); and 2 Howe St. (main floor, next to security desk). Employees can also donate via the Diaper Bank of Connecticut registry.
Volunteer Services provides reading materials for patients and guests during their hospital stays, and stocks a magazine and book cart for inpatient units. Supply is currently low, and magazine donations are needed. Magazines must be no older than six months and in good condition. They can be left in the drop box outside the Volunteer Services office door in the York Street Campus Atrium, or in the Saint Raphael Campus Volunteer Services office.
