The Office of Diversity and Inclusion invites employees to the Black History Month Celebration 2020, 7 am - 7 pm Friday, Feb. 21. The celebration will be in the Yale New Haven Hospital York Street Campus East Pavilion Special Events Area. It will include a continental breakfast reception, lunch program with presentations and special awards, plus an evening reception. The event will feature information on African-American leaders and prominent figures as well as special performances. All employees are invited; no registration is necessary.

The IRS has redesigned Form W-4 (Employee’s Withholding Allowance Certificate) for 2020. You are required to submit a 2020 Form W-4 only if you: started working for a new employer after Dec. 31, 2019; claimed exemption from federal income tax withholding in 2019; or wish to make other changes to your W-4 for 2020, including changing the amount withheld from each paycheck for taxes. YNHH and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program are again offering free federal and state income tax preparation services to YNHH employees whose total household income was under $54,000 in 2019. VITA tax preparers will see employees in the consultation room in the YNHH Fitness Center, 48 York St., Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 4 - April 9. Employees must call the Benefits Office, 203-688-8339, to make an appointment with a tax preparer, which takes 30 - 45 minutes. Employees must bring all W-2 and 1099 forms for the 2019 tax year; a copy of 2018’s tax return; a copy of a photo ID (driver’s license, passport or YNHH employee ID badge); original Social Security cards or the individual taxpayer identification number of each person being claimed; and bank account information for direct deposit of any IRS refund. The Yale New Haven Hospital Auxiliary is offering 10, $2,000 scholarships to area students planning to pursue health-related careers. The submission deadline is March 16. Scholarships are based on academic excellence, financial need, personal statement and community service, including school and community activities and/or employment. Nominations are now being accepted for the 2020 Smilow Luminary Awards of Excellence, which honor individuals and teams who consistently exceed performance expectations and deliver high-quality cancer care for patients, families and the health system throughout the year. Staff and volunteers may be recognized in the categories of community service, optimization/innovative solutions, patient experience, leadership and research initiatives.
