Chazz McCarter, Art Belanger
PEACE (Patient Experience Award for Caring and Excellence) Awards were given to the following employees, who went above and beyond to meet patients’ and families’ needs.
Chazz McCarter, patient transport associate, showed exemplary compassion to a transplant patient who was experiencing a lot of pain after his living-donor surgery. In a letter of glowing praise, the patient said, “Chazz, with his exceptionally friendly demeanor and big smile, was like a ray of light in my life when I was at my most vulnerable.” McCarter chatted with the patient about the surgery, offered to pray for his recovery and left his own cell phone number so the patient could call if he wanted to talk again. McCarter also visited the patient again a few days later. The patient greatly appreciated the role McCarter played in lifting his spirits and contributing to his recovery.
Art Belanger, manager of Autopsy and Morgue, was recognized for going above and beyond to help a grieving family after the sudden death of their young child, who had been a longtime patient. While the funeral arrangements and memorial services were being planned, Belanger contacted the child’s family to express his sympathy and reassure them that, while he understood how difficult it was for them to let her go, she would be taken care of throughout the entire process with respect and compassion. The family expressed their gratitude for Belanger’s kindness and comforting words during their very difficult time.
All employees, physicians and volunteers are eligible for the monthly PEACE award. Send nominations to: [email protected].
