Congratulations to these Great Catch winners for modeling HRO safety behaviors and taking action to improve patient safety.
Michael Murphy, Christine Gerardi
Christine Gerardi, lead echocardiography sonographer, Heart and Vascular Center, was recognized for attention to detail and practicing a questioning attitude while performing an echocardiogram. Noticing that the patient’s IV bag had a different name, she escalated her concerns. The patient’s nurse discovered that the correct medication and dose were being administered, but the wrong patient name had been put on the IV bag. The nurse relabeled the bag with the correct patient name.
Michael Murphy, surgical technologist, Saint Raphael Campus Operating Room, was recognized for attention to detail, practicing a questioning attitude and speaking up to respect a patient’s religious beliefs. The surgeon requested a bone implant, but Murphy practiced 200% accountability and reminded the surgical team of the patient’s religious beliefs. The team appreciated the cross check and opted for a comparable synthetic implant.
