Acknowledging the impact created by the 2019 novel Coronavirus pandemic and Yale New Haven Health’s ability to meet unprecedented challenges head on, the health system’s leadership announced that all employees would receive a monetary COVID-19 Recognition Award in the May 21, 2020 pay.
“It is with great pride and admiration that we thank our staff for making an incredible difference every day, on every shift across our health system,” said Marna Borgstrom, YNHHS chief executive officer. “We’ve seen employees work extra shifts, cover shifts at other hospitals, and take on new duties where they could help. We see and hear the stories of courage and compassion, and we want everyone to know how appreciative we are for the remarkable job they’ve done under extreme circumstances.”
The award will be 5 percent of the employee’s earnings associated with total hours worked between Dec. 22, 2019 and May 9, 2020. Payment will be made to full-time, part-time and casual status employees up to and including managers.
Leaders at the director level and above will not be eligible.
“In every situation, you stepped forward and in the true definition of a hero, rushed toward the challenge, not away from it,” Borgstrom noted. “This award reflects our philosophy to reward that exemplary performance.”
