Janifer Hailey, Scott Nihill
Great Catch winners help YNHH become a high reliability organization
Congratulations to these Great Catch winners for modeling HRO safety behaviors and taking action to improve patient safety.
Outpatient
Janifer Hailey, patient experience ambassador, was recognized for attention to detail and practicing a questioning attitude. While engaging with an outpatient at the York Street entrance, she noticed he was acting strangely. Having just completed her Infor training courses, Hailey thought the patient’s actions resembled those of a stroke victim. Though the patient said he was OK, Hailey didn’t let him leave unescorted. She walked with him to a clinical area and escalated her concerns. The patient was taken to the Emergency Department where it was confirmed he had a stroke.
Inpatient
Scott Nihill, Protective Services, was recognized for attention to detail and practicing a questioning attitude when he noticed a visitor struggling with her walker and obviously in distress in the York Street Campus Atrium. After approaching the patient and noting a language barrier, Officer Nihill took her to the Emergency Department to be evaluated. Shortly after the visitor was triaged and moved to a room, she lost her pulse and a Code Blue was called. The visitor was revived and treated. Nihill’s use of CHAMP behaviors helped save the visitor’s life.
