Claudia Ramos, RN, Medicine (EP 4-7), was recognized for attention to detail and practicing a questioning attitude. She noticed a dressing on a patient scheduled for an MRI and recalled that that type of dressing was not MRI-compatible. She cross-checked with the senior nurse on the unit and several MRI technicians, who verified that the dressing should be removed before the scan. Due to Ramos' great catch, the MRI safety checklist is being reviewed for improvement.
Shane Gall, radiology technologist, Heart and Vascular Interventional Radiology, was recognized for attention to detail, practicing a questioning attitude and 200% accountability. A patient was admitted after hours for a GI bleed and received an angiogram to locate the source. While archiving the film, Gall noted a suspicious area on one of the films and escalated his concerns to the attending interventional radiologist. The radiologist agreed with Gall's findings, and the patient returned to the Interventional Radiology lab for a successful procedure to stop the bleeding.
