Dance/movement workshop Sept. 29

A Positive Difference deadline is Sept. 30

Employees who enroll in the A Positive Difference employee giving program by Sept. 30 will be automatically entered into a random drawing for one of three free iPads. The program is administered through Employee Self Service, making it easy and convenient for employees to support the Yale New Haven Hospital community. Join the CarFree Challenge this month

Employees are encouraged to participate in goNewHavengo’s CarFree Challenge, a contest for businesses and individuals to see who can use their cars the least and travel sustainably the most in September. During the contest, which starts Sept. 1, participants are encouraged to walk, bike, telecommute, carpool, vanpool or use mass transit as much as possible and log their trips online. CarFree Challenge participants will be eligible to win prizes. GoNewHavengo is an alternative transportation program that encourages healthier, cleaner, and cheaper travel in the Greater New Haven Area. Last year, 483 individual CarFree Challenge participants and 35 partner businesses cut 52,055 miles of car travel in a single month, burned a combined 587,785 extra calories, saved $87,399 and reduced CO2 emissions by 74.12 tons. Last call: Patient Experience Conference abstracts due Sept. 6

The deadline for YNHHS employees to submit abstracts for the 2016 Patient Experience Conference is Sept. 6. For submission criteria and forms, visit the intranet or contact your department manager. Accepted posters will be displayed at the conference, and the awards committee will select a winning team from each delivery network. The conference is Oct. 13 at Webster Bank Arena, Bridgeport. All YNHHS employees are invited. Registration is open through Employee Self Service.

Pre-retirement workshop Sept. 6

A pre-retirement workshop will be held 8 am - 4 pm Tuesday, Sept. 6, CH201, York Street Campus. Employees may attend on work time with manager approval. The workshop will cover estate planning, YNHH retirement and Social Security benefits, Fidelity Investment options and maintaining a healthy lifestyle in retirement. Prostate cancer screening for employees Sept. 15 and 16

The hospital and Yale Cancer Center will hold free prostate cancer screenings for YNHH employees, 3:30 - 5 pm Thursday, Sept. 15, and 7 - 8 am Friday, Sept. 16, Urology Center, 330 Orchard St., New Haven (Saint Raphael Campus). Weight-loss program begins this month

YNHH is offering Live Well and Lose It, a group weight-management class for employees and their adult dependents covered under the Yale New Haven Health System benefits plan with no copay or deductible. The seven-session program, taught by YNHH registered dietitians, includes a brief lecture on topics such as best food choices, portions, dining out, healthy cooking and staying motivated, and confidential weigh-ins and goal-setting assistance.

Class schedule: York Street Campus: 7:30 am and 12:15 pm every other Tuesday, Sept. 20 - Dec. 13; Medical Center South: 12:15 pm every other Wednesday, Sept 21 - Dec. 14; Saint Raphael Campus: 12:15 pm every other Thursday, Sept. 22 – Dec. 15.
