Yoga wellness workshop June 8

The Smilow Wellness Workshops series continues with "The Art of Yoga," 12:30 pm Monday, June 8, second floor conference room, 55 Park St. The workshop is free to the public; participants are encouraged to bring their own yoga mats. Transforming Healthcare Grand Rounds June 9

Employees are invited to Transforming Healthcare Grand Rounds, 5 - 6:30 pm Tuesday, June 9, Fitkin Auditorium. The speaker is Thomas H. Lee, MD, chief medical officer, Press Ganey Associates, Inc. The talk is part of a series designed to help employees and physicians enhance their clinical leadership by learning from national and international experts on improvement science. Cancer Survivors Day event June 10

Cancer survivors and their families are invited to a Cancer Survivors Day event, 5 pm Wednesday, June 10, at Yale University's West Campus in Orange. Thomas Lynch, Jr., MD, physician-in-chief, Smilow Cancer Hospital and director of Yale Cancer Center, will speak, and actress Colleen Zenk, who portrayed Barbara Ryan on "As the World Turns," will share her experiences as an oral cancer survivor. Financial fair June 9 - 15

The hospital's annual financial fair will be June 9 - 15 in five locations. The fair helps employees learn more about the financial programs the hospital offers. Representatives from Fidelity Investments, Bank of America, Healthcare Financial Federal Credit Union and other financial institutions, along with the Employee & Family Resources Program and YNHH livingwellCares Program will answer questions. Hospital Benefits staff also will be available to answer questions about the Cash Account Pension Plan personal statement employees will receive at home before the fair.

Pediatric Cancer Survivors Event June 20

Pediatric cancer survivors of all ages and their families are invited to a survivors barbecue, noon - 3 pm Saturday, June 20, at the carriage house in Edgerton Park, New Haven. The event will feature music, dancing, crafts and other activities. It is sponsored by Yale New Haven Children's Hospital, Yale Cancer Center and the Tommy Fund. YNHH earns three sustainability awards

Practice Greenhealth, a national organization for healthcare facilities committed to environmental responsibility, has recognized YNHH with three awards. The Emerald Partner for Change award recognizes healthcare facilities that have implemented a significant number of environmental programs and continuously improve and expand upon these programs on the path to sustainability. YNHH was selected for engaging in environmentally preferable purchasing, a bio-based cleaning program, waste-reduction efforts, food donations to local organizations, energy conservation initiatives and environmental stewardship practices in operating rooms. YNHH has increased recycling efforts to 35 percent hospital-wide and is the only Connecticut hospital to recycle in all of its ORs. In addition, YNHH increased the selection of sugar-free beverages in its cafeterias and retail outlets and partnered with local farmers to sell sustainable foods. The hospital also received two Circle of Excellence awards, which recognize the top 10 hospitals for outstanding performance in a specific area of expertise.



Deadline to apply for Auxiliary project grants is July 1

Hospital departments at both campuses may apply for up to $5,000 from the YNHH Auxiliary's Project Grants Program for fiscal year 2016. Requests must be submitted by Wednesday, July 1 for projects that directly benefit patients and their families and would not be covered by departmental funding. Submissions must be approved by the department's vice president. Application materials are available from department heads or the Auxiliary office. Please email the cover sheet and supporting documentation to the Auxiliary email address and include the department name and request in the subject line. A maximum of six pages will be accepted. YNHH annual report available online

The Yale New Haven Hospital 2014 annual report is now available at the YNHH website. With the theme Enhancing the Lives of Those We Serve, the report includes stories of patients whose lives were changed by the skill and compassion of YNHH staff. The report also includes a message with highlights of the past fiscal year, annual financial and statistical information, lists of hospital and medical staff leadership and names of donors from the past year.
