On May 26, Yale New Haven Hospital celebrated the opening of its new Old Saybrook Medical Center with food, fanfare and a special ribbon cutting.

Local elected officials, community members and YNHH staff and physicians attended the ceremony and toured the 633 Middlesex Turnpike outpatient facility, which offers convenient access to skilled specialists and advanced treatments for residents of Middlesex and New London counties.

"This project is part of the evolution of destination hospitals such as Yale- New Haven," said Richard D'Aquila, YNHH president. "We're bringing our innovative and comprehensive medical services to the community of Old Saybrook and surrounding towns. This is the future of medical care: The hospital is coming to the patients, making it convenient for them to access the exceptional care Yale New Haven is known for."

Conveniently located near Interstate 95 and Route 9, Old Saybrook Medical Center houses YNHH's 11th Smilow Cancer Care Center and offers a wide range of services for children and adults, including pediatric specialty, musculoskeletal, urology, heart and vascular, rheumatology, and allergy and immunology services. Blood draw and diagnostic radiology services are also available onsite.

"I'm especially proud that so many different clinical programs collaborated to provide the broad array of services being offered here in Old Saybrook," said Marna Borgstrom, president and CEO, Yale New Haven Health System.

"All of the clinics and diagnostic facilities will be staffed by outstanding hospital employees, and we'll have physicians from Gales Ferry Pediatrics, part of our Yale New Haven Health System physician practice, Northeast Medical Group, practicing next to specialists from Yale School of Medicine in this wonderful space," Borgstrom said.
