A message from the president of Westerly Hospital

Westerly Hospital has been serving this community for close to a century. Our commitment to providing the highest-quality care remains as strong today as it was when the hospital first opened.

That strength and commitment is evident within the pages of this publication, which highlights some of our key programs and services. Expanded clinical services, designed to continually meet the needs of our community, are the hallmark of the resurgence happening at Westerly Hospital.

For example, we made a commitment to bring high-quality care to this community, supported by the clinical excellence of the Yale New Haven Health System. Today, I’m proud to say that we kept that promise. We developed more behavioral health services for the most vulnerable people in our community, and we recently opened an inpatient Geriatric Psychiatric unit – the first of its kind in Washington County.

Additionally, we opened the first Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center in Rhode Island – located here at Westerly Hospital. This important development provides world-class cancer care right here in our community where people work, live and play.

We also believe that providing access to high-quality orthopedic care is a foundational element of our hospital. We recently expanded our orthopedic program by adding new providers to our medical staff who will see patients in their Westerly office and provide surgical care at Westerly Hospital.

When we affiliated with Yale New Haven Health three years ago, there were many questions about the future of Westerly Hospital. Today, with these additional programs, you can see that our commitment to this community will never waver. The future is bright!
