Yale New Haven Health System and Yale Medicine Launch InMotion: Mobile Retail Pharmacy and Clinic

mobile pharmacy van

Imagine going to see a doctor and picking up your prescriptions all in the same location?

Nowadays, getting checked out for even the most basic illnesses and conditions will almost always require an appointment, nevertheless, having to wait months before being seen.

InMotion, introduced by Yale New Haven Health (YNHHS) and Yale Medicine (YM), is looking to change that. It is the first mobile retail pharmacy and clinic in Connecticut to bring healthcare to people where they live.

This project is the first state in the nation to legalize mobile retail pharmacy services while making better health accessible to anyone disconnected from the healthcare system for any reason. It is led by Sandra Springer, MD, professor of medicine (infectious diseases).

Springer envisioned a mobile healthcare system to bring primary, infectious disease, substance use disorder, commonly needed clinical care, and medications to people where they live. Springer won an Avant Garde Award in 2022 by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, which as funded this revolutionary initiative.

Connecticut is the only state where retail mobile pharmacies are legalized as of July 1, 2023. YNHHS provides the pharmacy services for InMotion.

The van is open to the community and walk-ins are welcome or click here to schedule an appointment. You can also text or call 1-833-MEDSVAN (633-7826) to schedule appointments and for more information.

InMotion’s team of a pharmacist and clinicians on the mobile pharmacy/clinic and Community Health Workers all work together to provide access to pharmacy services and healthcare as well as social services to community members wherever they are. Rest assured, it is a private and confidential space for people’s healthcare needs.

If someone cannot make it to medical appointments due to transportation challenges, have young children, support family members living with a disability or are homeless, the InMotion mobile pharmacy can bring vaccinations, medications, and clinical case and disease management to the person needing care.

Mobile Services Include:

  • Filling prescription medications and administering vaccinations
  • Clinical care via telehealth and through in-person visits
  • Phlebotomy (blood draw) services
  • Primary care health services and care for chronic conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure
  • Specialty services for wound care and infectious diseases
  • Addiction services, including emergency naloxone treatment for substance use disorder
  • Mental healthcare
  • Social service assistance for housing applications and financial navigation
