The Yale New Haven Hospital Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council’s Community Engagement Committee invites all employees to participate in the Healthy Moving and Health Equity Virtual 5K, May 25 - June 1. The event aims to promote healthy lifestyles and raise awareness of healthcare inequities.
“We started with a plan to raise awareness around the need for health equity,” said event organizer Luwan Durant, associate transplant coordinator. “When we decided to do the 5K, we realized it would be a great way to also encourage people to get active and make small changes to lead healthier lifestyles.”
Since the event is virtual, participants can walk, jog or run the entire distance in one session or spread activities over the week.
“It’s really challenging to organize a live, in-person 5K during a pandemic,” Durant said. “That’s why we went virtual. People can still get out and get moving for a good cause, even if we’re not all together in person.”
Registration is required. Log in to the Infor learning management system and search for “Healthy Moving” to sign up. Registered participants will receive information on health equity awareness, along with a tip sheet with suggestions on leading a healthier, physically active lifestyle.
