The Heart and Vascular Center at Yale New Haven Hospital has received the 2023 Mitral Valve Repair Reference Center Award from the American Heart Association and the Mitral Foundation for excellence in mitral valve repair surgery. The hospital previously received the award for 2020, 2021 and 2022. The award recognizes centers that have superior clinical outcomes and an ongoing commitment to reporting and measuring quality and outcome metrics. Mitral valve reconstruction is associated with improved survival and fewer long-term complications versus valve replacement.
The Pediatric ECMO Program at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital recently received the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization’s (ELSO) “Center of Excellence” designation for 2023 – 2026. The ECMO team has held this designation continuously since 2010. This multidisciplinary group of pediatric specialists goes into action when babies and children develop life-threatening heart and/or lung issues, administering sophisticated life-support therapy to provide oxygen to the blood.
