These employees received PEACE (Patient Experience Award for Caring and Excellence) recognition for going above and beyond to meet patients’ and families’ needs.
Staff from the PACU and Surgery (SLA 2) were honored for collaborating to provide extraordinary care to a patient with severe claustrophobia. Normally, the patient would have been transported to a different nursing unit via elevator. SLA 2 and PACU staff arranged an alternative post-op recovery plan that allowed the patient to recover on SLA 2, eliminating the need for the elevator ride. The patient was emotional in expressing his gratitude to the entire staff for their efforts on his behalf.
Diane Viveiros, LCSW, social worker for Gynecologic Oncology (NP 14) and the Gyn- Oncolgy clinic, was honored for consistently demonstrating acts of caring and compassion on behalf of patients, family members and YNHH staff. Viveiros recently gave a terminally patient a quilt for her birthday, and acquired tickets to the Super Bowl for a staff member with relapsing cancer. She also co-hosts a service on the unit to remember former patients, and provides staff education about patients’ preferred spiritual beliefs at end-of-life.
All employees, physicians and volunteers are eligible for the monthly PEACE recognition. Send nominations to: [email protected].
