A film crew from National Geographic-United Kingdom spent hours in a Yale- New Haven Hospital operating room Dec. 22 with John Elefteriades, MD, surgical director of the hospital's Aortic Institute. The crew was documenting a surgical procedure called deep hypothermic circulatory arrest, which involves cooling the patient's body and stopping blood circulation to allow surgery on the aortic arch. The patient whose procedure was filmed had an aortic aneurysm repaired and a heart valve replaced. The segment is scheduled to air in early spring.
