Congratulations to these Great Catch winners for modeling HRO safety behaviors and taking action to improve patient safety.
Lakiya Nichols, Interventional Radiology technologist, was recognized for 200% accountability and practicing STAR after an inappropriate handoff of a specimen container. Nichols investigated and determined the specimen container was for a pediatric liver biopsy being performed in a different procedure room. By moving quickly to resolve the issue, she avoided a repeat procedure.
From left are Allison Clark, RN, patient service manager, Verdi 3 East; Christoforo; and Patrizia Schaefer, RN, patient service manager, MICU (Verdi 3 North and West).
Karthik Murugiah, MD, Cardiology, and Toni Christoforo, RN, Heart and Vascular Center Cardiac Medical/Telemetry and Step-Down Unit (Verdi 3 East), were recognized for exceptional clinical judgment and 200% accountability when caring for a patient who developed a cardiac complication post procedure. When the patient developed a sudden change in status upon arriving on the unit, Christoforo escalated her concerns and called for a rapid response. After assessing the urgency of the situation, Dr. Murugiah activated a stat bedside procedure, which prevented a negative event.
