YNHH’s student nurse interns this summer are from Western, Southern and Central Connecticut state universities and Quinnipiac, Fairfield and Sacred Heart universities in Connecticut, along with the universities of Massachusetts, Pittsburgh and Rhode Island; Penn State, Purdue and East Carolina universities; and SUNY Buffalo and the College of New Rochelle.

Welcome, student nurse interns

This summer, 34 student nurses from academic institutions throughout the U.S. are working at Yale New Haven Hospital to better understand the professional nurse's role. Interns are working for 10 weeks in Heart and Vascular, Medicine, Surgery, Women’s Services, Oncology, Perioperative, the Nursing Resource Operation Center, Musculoskeletal/Orthopedics, Critical Care, Pediatrics and Behavioral Health. They’re learning clinical skills by providing patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, and attending patient care conferences and team rounds. Students are also learning about safety, patient- and family-centered care and communication with the multidisciplinary healthcare team. In addition to teaching skills, the experience is designed to build future nurses’ confidence and help them transition to practice.
