Sonographer Ian Crandall (holding plaque) has always been active, running at least eight miles a day and walking around 15,000 steps during his shift in the Heart and Vascular Center Echocardiography Lab. So when he and other HVC staff and physicians leaned about a walking contest sponsored by the Siemens medical device company, they formed a team and started counting steps. After 26 days, Crandall narrowly bested a California woman to win the contest, logging more than 400,000 steps. YNHH patients are the real winners, though, because the prize is a Siemens ACUSON Bonsai™ portable cardiac ultrasound system, which Crandall and his coworkers will use for cardiac exams.
