YNHH is offering Live Well and Lose It, a group weight-management class for employees and their adult dependents covered under the Yale New Haven Health System benefits plan with no copay or deductible. This eight-session program, taught weekly by YNHH registered dietitians, includes a 30-minute lecture on topics such as best food choices, portions, dining out and staying motivated, and offers confidential weighins and goal-setting assistance. While most people can feel down, sad or upset at times, not every low mood can be called depression. Patients, guests and employees are invited to a medical marijuana panel discussion, part of the Smilow Wellness Workshop Series, 5:30 pm Thursday, Oct. 12, 55 Park St. auditorium. Medical marijuana can be used to treat cancer, glaucoma, psoriatic arthritis, Parkinson’s disease and other chronic conditions, but the process is not as simple as getting a prescription from a licensed physician. In this workshop, a medical doctor, advanced practice registered nurse and pharmacist who manages a local marijuana dispensary will discuss what it takes to certify and register a patient for treatment. During national Healthcare Quality Week, employees are invited to learn more about YNHH’s quality improvement efforts at a series of events, including a kickoff at Morning Safety Report, 8 am Tuesday, Oct. 17, Cronin Auditorium, with live streaming to the 55 Park St. Auditorium and off sites. A digital display featuring posters on quality improvement projects will be shown 9 am - 3 pm Wednesday, Oct. 18, outside the YSC cafeteria and 9 am - 3 pm Thursday, Oct. 19, outside the SRC cafeteria. This year will feature a “virtual” event with a Quality Week tool kit available via the YNHH intranet. Sponsored by the Nursing Quality and Safety Council.
YNHH offers an education and training program for employees and others interested in becoming a pharmacy technician. Pharmacy technicians work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist performing duties such as refilling medication dispensing machines, managing emergency medications, preparing sterile and non-sterile compounds and helping to manage medication inventory. YNHH’s 20-week program includes classroom instruction, hands-on training in a simulation lab and real-world training. Admission requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and adequate performance on a mathematics exam.
