Debra Coyle, APRN; Porscha Benjamin
Congratulations to these Great Catch winners for modeling HRO safety behaviors and taking action to improve patient safety.
Debra Coyle, APRN, Heart and Vascular Center, was recognized for attention to detail and practicing a questioning attitude on behalf of a patient who arrived in the Heart and Vascular Center procedure area for removal of a central line catheter. In reviewing the patient’s medical record, Coyle noticed the patient hadn’t yet had another procedure required before the catheter could be removed. Coyle’s use of CHAMP behaviors helped keep the patient safe.
Porscha Benjamin, surgical technologist, was recognized for 200% accountability and practicing a questioning attitude during a procedure to remove a surgical device. As the team prepared to finish, Benjamin stopped the line and alerted the physician that a hernia repair needed to be completed after the device removal. The surgical team validated and verified the information. The team was grateful for the cross check and the patient didn’t have to return for another procedure.
