Lisa Graziano, RN; Joshua Copel, MD
Congratulations to these Great Catch winners for modeling HRO safety behaviors and taking action to improve patient safety.
Lisa Graziano, RN, assistant patient service manager, Emergency Department, was recognized for practicing a questioning attitude after a conversation with a pregnant colleague who seemed to be in distress. Graziano suggested checking her colleague’s blood pressure, which was elevated. Thanks to Graziano’s use of the CHAMP behaviors, her colleague was escorted to Labor and Delivery for an emergency C-section and a successful delivery.
Joshua Copel, MD, attending physician, Maternal Fetal Medicine, was recognized for attention to detail, practicing a questioning attitude and 200% accountability. Dr. Copel performs intrauterine fetal transfusions, which include obtaining the fetus’ blood type. He noticed that the fetal blood type was showing as the maternal blood type in Epic, so he escalated his concern to the Epic team. Dr. Copel’s actions led to an Epic change to ensure that the correct blood type was displayed.
