DNA research project seeks volunteers

Yale New Haven Health and Yale School of Medicine are seeking volunteers for the Generations project, one of the largest DNA sequencing efforts of its kind in the United States.

There is no cost to participants, who give a small blood sample from which their DNA is collected, sequenced and submitted to an electronic “biobank.” Researchers with the Yale Center for Genomic Health analyze biobank data, seeking genetic information that may be related to certain health concerns. The ultimate goal is to better prevent, predict and treat cancer, heart disease, kidney and liver diseases and other conditions in the future.

Researchers will not know participants’ identities, but, with participants’ permission, Generations project leaders can share relevant genetic information with participants and their healthcare providers.
