Tina Onofrio, food service ambassador, Food and Nutrition, was delivering a tray to a young patient who was upset because it was his mother’s birthday and the family would not be able to celebrate with her favorite chocolate cake. Onofrio requested a piece of cake from the kitchen, purchased a rose from the gift shop and brought it to the young boy so he could present it to his mother. Onofrio’s thoughtfulness made a big impact on a young patient and his family.
Rania Nouh, RN, MICU (Verdi 3), was recognized for exemplary patient care and service during a family’s very difficult time. An elderly couple was admitted to separate units at the SRC for different issues, with Nouh as the husband’s nurse on the MICU. When the family made an end-of-life decision on his care, Nouh arranged for his wife to be brought to his room for a final visit. She provided food and drinks for the family and stayed with them after her shift to offer comfort and compassion. In addition, Nouh later attended the patient’s wake and burial, which the patient’s family greatly appreciated.
