Yale New Haven Hospital’s Center for Professional Practice Excellence (CPPE) recently won the Connecticut Nurses Association’s Excellence in the Workplace Award for helping the hospital meet significant challenges during COVID-19.
YNHH’s CPPE provides educational programs and consultation to promote practice excellence, professional growth and development and lifelong learning. During COVID-19, the center provided support, guidance and a stable resource for nursing staff and leaders. Among other tasks, the CPPE developed and provided training and competencies for nurses redeployed to different units and new roles. The center also helped onboard hundreds of new and traveling nurses; developed programs to support nurse residents; and converted orientation and training programs into a virtual format.
The Connecticut Nurses Association award recognizes a work or practice setting that promotes nurses’ professional autonomy, control over nursing practice and/or an enhanced work environment. Awardees may serve as models to other work settings and may be replicable in other departments in an organization or in other institutions.
