The Office of Development invites employees to donate to YNHH in honor of a physician or nurse who has made a difference in their lives — as a caregiver or colleague. YNHH will observe National Healthcare Decisions Day Thursday, April 16 with "Start the Conversation" events for employees, patients and visitors. The day is designed to inspire, educate and empower the public and healthcare providers about advance care planning, encourage patients to express their wishes about healthcare and providers and facilities to respect those wishes. Information tables will be staffed 7:30 am-5:30 pm at the York Street Campus Atrium and Saint Raphael Campus cafeteria. Representatives from Patient Relations, Legal and Risk Services, Social Work, Spiritual Care and other departments will discuss the benefits of making wishes known in advance. Handouts will include conversation starter kits, YNHH's advance directives brochures and advance directives legal forms. Staff will be available to answer questions and assist with completing advance directives. In addition, a new intranet site for YNHHS employees, National Healthcare Decisions Day, will have documents and links to other websites. The Yale New Haven Hospital Auxiliary will present a lecture and panel discussion, "The Aging Eye," at 7:30 pm Thursday, April 16, at Whitney Center, 200 Leeder Hill Drive, Hamden. The livingwell Fitness Center is introducing yoga classes at the Saint Raphael Campus, starting with a five-week session beginning Monday, April 20. Classes will be 4:45-5:30 pm in the conference room off the Cronin Auditorium lobby. For the second year, YNHH's Mutual Respect Committee is collaborating with the Social Work department and Primary Care Centers (PCCs) on the Bundle of Joy event. Hospital employees are invited to team up with co-workers to create a "bundle" of new baby items for families in need at YNHH's PCC. Each bundle should contain (new items only, please): diapers — sizes newborn and up; one-piece sleepers — sizes 6-24 months; fitted crib sheets; baby toiletries; bibs and burp cloths; towels and wash cloths; baby wipes; and layette sets. Once items are collected, each bundle should be placed in a portable container such as a diaper bag or reusable shopping bag. The Bundle of Joy event runs through Friday, May 22.
The hospital has opened a cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) lab in the Private Building, room 212, at the Saint Raphael Campus. The new lab performs CPETs Monday afternoons beginning at 1:30 pm. It includes new CPET equipment, bike and arm ergometers and a treadmill. The new CPET lab is part of YNHH's pulmonary function testing services, which include pulmonary function testing labs in the Fitkin Building, on NP 12 at Smilow Cancer Hospital and on Private 2 at the SRC.
