Smilow Cancer Hospital recently became the first in the Northeast to offer a revolutionary new type of radiation therapy to treat lung and bone cancers.
Representatives from Smilow and Yale School of Medicine attended a ribbon-cutting Jan. 4 to showcase RefleXion Medical’s SCINTIX biology-guided radiotherapy (BgRT) technology. SCINTIX BgRT is the only cancer treatment that uses signals produced by a tumor to precisely direct radiation without harming healthy tissue, said Peter Glazer, MD, PhD, chief of Radiation Oncology at Smilow and chair of the Department of Therapeutic Radiology at Yale School of Medicine.
“We are thrilled to offer this breakthrough technology that can benefit certain patients at early- and late-stages,” he said. “BgRT is safe, effective with fewer sessions, and can be combined with chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted drugs to tailor the best therapeutic plan for each patient’s specific situation.”
