Eight employees from throughout Yale New Haven Health System recently received the United Hospital Fund’s Excellence in Healthcare Award for Quality Improvement Champions. YNHHS awardees were Rebecca McCray, RN, director, Vaccine Enterprise, and Nancy Hamson, MBA, system director, Community Health. Yale New Haven Hospital’s awardee was Adam L. Ackerman, MD, physician lead and co-chair of Opioid Stewardship. The award honors extraordinary leadership in improving quality of care, patient safety and the patient experience.
Oliver Karam, MD, PhD, has been named chief of Pediatric Critical Care for Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital and section chief of Critical Care Medicine for Yale’s Department of Pediatrics, effective July 1. Dr. Karam is the John Mickell Endowed Professor of Pediatrics at Virginia Commonwealth University. He earned his MD from the University of Geneva School of Medicine; completed a pediatric residency at Geneva Children’s Hospital; and completed fellowships in pediatric critical care at Sainte-Justine Hospital, University of Montreal, and Geneva Children’s Hospital. Dr. Karam also earned a master’s degree in clinical research from the University of Montreal and a PhD in critical care medicine from the University of Lille in Lille, France.
