Dawn Parson, surgical technician, Pediatric OR, Maternal Fetal Medicine, was recognized for attention to detail and speaking up for safety during a procedure. Parson noticed before closing that a specimen had not been handed over. She stopped the line and escalated her concerns. The surgeon accepted the cross check, the specimen was provided and the procedure was completed.
Cheryl Maenza, APRN, Heart and Vascular Center, was recognized for attention to detail during a telehealth visit with a transplant patient who tested positive for COVID-19. The patient told Maenza his primary care provider had prescribed medication for COVID-19. Recognizing that the medication is contraindicated in transplant patients, Maenza immediately discontinued it and ordered emergency labs that showed critical results. Thanks to Maenza’s immediate attention, the patient received prompt treatment.
