Brittany Busser, LCSW; Carlos Mena-Hurtado, MD
PEACE recognition announced
These employees received PEACE (Patient Experience Award for Caring and Excellence) recognition for going above and beyond to meet patients’ and families’ needs.
Brittany Busser, LCSW, EP 10-7, was honored for going above and beyond for a family member who was extremely distraught, despite the patient being medically stable. Busser went into the room to chat with the patient and family member and investigate the situation. It soon became apparent that the family member was intoxicated and could harm herself. Busser convinced her to check into the Emergency Department for support, evaluation and observation.
Carlos Mena-Hurtado, MD, interventional cardiologist, was honored for compassionate care and attention to an employee. While walking through the hall one morning, Dr. Mena-Hurtado saw the employee sweating, struggling to breathe and clutching his chest. Dr. Mena-Hurtado brought the man to a nearby Heart and Vascular Center prep hold area. HVC procedural nurses Jessica Rapacciuolo, RN, Caroline Coolidge, RN, and Jamie Andrias, RN; along with interventional technologist Rosemary Herasimovich and procedure cluster leader Sarah Collins sprang into action. They performed an EKG and took the employee’s vitals, which showed he was having a heart attack. He was immediately brought to the cardiac catheterization lab for life-saving treatment.
All employees, physicians and volunteers are eligible for the monthly PEACE recognition. Send nominations to: [email protected].
