On Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday Jan. 15, Yale New Haven Hospital presented three high school students with $1,000 Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Awards. To be eligible, students must live in New Haven, attend a New Haven public school and have performed over 40 hours of uncompensated community service that does not count toward school credit. Cynthia Lowman, career counselor, Talent Acquisition, and Paul Patton, vice president, Human Resources, recognized (l-r): Delen Berrios, who attends The Sound School and volunteers with the John S. Martinez Magnet School Family Learning Center; Eric Brown, whose volunteer activities include serving as a shadow mentor for younger Sound School students; and Camille Fortin, who attends Wilbur Cross High School and enjoys volunteering with New Haven Reads.
