PEACE recognition announced
Antonio Lopes; Catherine Ford, RN
These employees received PEACE (Patient Experience Award for Caring and Excellence) recognition for going above and beyond to meet patients’ and families’ needs.
Antonio Lopes, lead autopsy technician, was recognized for going above and beyond to assist a grieving family member after the sudden death of her father. The woman, who had been out of state, arrived at the hospital two days after his death. Despite being in the midst of preparations to transport the father for burial, Lopes made arrangements so the daughter could spend time saying goodbye to her father in the Emergency Department bereavement room. The family expressed their deepest gratitude for Lopes’ kindness.
Catherine Ford, RN, Heart and Vascular Center Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit, was honored for exemplary patient- and family-centered care. While caring for a critically ill patient who had suffered an aortic dissection, Ford learned that his wife was undergoing chemotherapy in Waterbury. She arranged to have the wife’s treatments scheduled at Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven so she could be close to her husband during his hospitalization. Ford’s efforts enabled the woman to tend to her own medical issues while simultaneously being present for her acutely ill husband, which greatly eased the woman’s mind during a stressful time.
All employees, physicians and volunteers are eligible for the monthly PEACE recognition. Send nominations to: [email protected].
