Fifty years ago, in 1965, the hospital and Yale School of Medicine signed an affiliation agreement which resulted in, among other things, the name change to Yale New Haven Hospital. Before that, between 1945 and 1965, the hospital was called Grace-New Haven Community Hospital. Between 1826 and 1945, the hospital was known as the General Hospital Society of Connecticut, or more commonly, the State Hospital or New Haven Hospital.
