Protective Services offers safety tips
Yale New Haven Hospital’s Protective Services department offers these tips to help keep employees safe, inside and outside hospital facilities:
- Be aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious activity or people by dialing 911 or using the See Say Now app on your smartphone (log in to Infor and select ELERTS for more information).
- While walking to and from your vehicle, have the See Say Now App open and ready to use if necessary.
- If confronted by an individual who is threatening you or demanding your possessions, for your safety, hand the items over. Do not further engage the individual.
- Do not be preoccupied with your cell phone. Always remain alert and observant.
- Use a buddy system when walking to and from your vehicle.
- Whenever possible, park in well-lit areas.
- Always have keys ready so you can enter your vehicle quickly. Once inside your vehicle, immediately lock your doors.
- Use the hospital’s shuttle service instead of walking to and from your vehicle, or when traveling between campuses. Download the Ride Systems App to check shuttle schedules and locations on your phone.
- Use Protective Services vehicle or walking escorts. Call 203-688-2500 (YSC), or 203-789-3800 (SRC) to request an escort.
- Always use caution when inside our facilities, especially when alone in an elevator or stairwells.
- When possible, avoid carrying handbags, totes and backpacks. Remember to conceal jewelry and high-value items while outside hospital facilities.
- When on campus, always wear your employee ID badge above the waist and have it visible at all times.
- If you see something or someone suspicious, take evasive action and don’t be afraid to call for help.
- Keep these numbers handy: Protective Services: 203-688-2500 (YSC); 203-789-3800 (SRC); 155 (in-hospital emergency number).
